1/6/2024 0 Comments Hills absynthI was hesitant to post this review, as I am actually loathe to give this abomination any press whatsoever, but let’s be fair, shall we? I need to have the odd negative review. After a hiatus during the communist period, production has restarted and it is the best selling Absinthe in its domestic market. It is a high alcoholic liquor made from aniseed fennel coriander. Hills Absinthe is made to the same recipe as when first introduced in 1920. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, that is NOT the only reason to drink absinthe!!!! Whenever I confront people about this vulgar obscenity, they usually retreat behind that excuse and I have to restrain myself to keep from slapping them. This licorice-tasting drink goes back to the late 19th century, when absinthe was in vogue. Since 1911, Hills Absinthe has been distilled from 100 wormwood and botanicals that produce aromas and flavours of wormwood, cardamom, coriander. The tale is simple: “Avoid this at all costs!!!” The bottle was all but completely drained by friends who just wanted the buzz. I purchased this bottle years ago and the only reason why I still have it is because I decided to keep the small portion in the bottom as a cautionary tale. It is offensive to more experienced tongues and misleading as a first impression. In short, if you are a lover of absinthe, or if you are just starting out in your journey as an absintheur, I beg you to please not insult yourself by buying this. There is no louche, so it’s obviously lacking all the right herbs, thereby negating it’s claim as an “absinth” (probably the reason they spelled it that way, so they could get away with saying “well, we never called it ‘absinthe!'”). It’s like drinking paint thinner when it’s neat and like drinking watered down paint thinner when it’s mixed. So far, in my experience of Czech absinthes, I must say they don’t know anything about it (this is not just coming from a Canadian, mind you – absintheurs the world over agree with me).Īleister Crowley traced the etymology of the word absinthe to the Greek word apsinthion which he translates as “not consumable”, and that is exactly what Hill’s is. The choice of the type face as well as the placement creates a young, playful, yet still elegant feel. Woodland Hills Wine Company makes every effort to ensure that alcoholic beverages are not delivered to anyone who is under the age of 21. We love how they utilize the color of the liquid as an element in the design. The brand is successful in Canada as well as currently the most popular Absinthe in Taiwan.' We can see why, the design of the bottle is beautiful. The band Master’s Hammer came from there. 'Hill's Absinthe is an export Czech Absinth. Every image I’ve seen has been beautiful. Today, 72 kinds of liquor are produced including Hill's Absinth.Even though I’ve never been there, I’ve always wanted to visit the Czech Republic. He had 50 oak casks of 500 Liters capacity made and once again the family business began to thrive. In 1990 after the Velvet Revolution Radomil Hill was one of the first to negotiate the return of his property. Because of his capitalist past, and not being in the communist party, he could not assume the position of CEO. It became known that Radomil had expert knowledge about producing liquors and moved up in the company until he reached chief of production. In 1950 Radomil Hill went to work for Fruta in Bohemia, (a state-created liquor producing monopoly) as a truck driver. No pension was given to him as he was considered a capitalist by the state. The new communist regime began their program of nationalizing every business meaning that all company land and property were confiscated, including Radomil's own car.Īlbin Hill was forced to work as night watchmen in his senior years. Unfortunately in 1948 all things changed for the Hill's. The father and son operation prospered producing specialties such as Absinth, Radigast (herbal liqueur named after the Slavic God of War) 160 proof 'Alpsky Rum' (Alp Style Rum), and Zubrovka (Bison Grass Vodka) In 1947, Radomil Hill started his own arm of the firm in Valasske Mezirici, in North Moravia. At that time there were only 3 such schools in the whole of Europe, in Berlin, Paris, and Prague. ![]() He grew up with the business and in his late teens went to Prague to study in the school of liqueur mixing and production. ![]() He starting out as a wine wholesaler and soon after began producing his own liquor and liqueurs.
